Template:Quote
“Placeholder preview text, just to give you an idea of the template.”
—Betatester, BeamNG.wiki, 25 July 2016
Basic Setup
To apply the Quote template to a line of text or a paragraph, go to one you would like to use:
Stick the template around the text:
{{Quote| |quote = *text* }}
The text is now italicized and indented, and there are alternate quotation marks at each end of the paragraph.
Citations
The quote is now different from the rest of the text, but there is still something missing. Without citations, no one will know who, where, or when the transcribed text first originated. Although not necessarily required in the template, they are still recommended as they confirm authenticity of the quote.
Author
The author parameter is the person who wrote or spoke the quoted text. To specify an author, just add a new parameter below "|quote:" and apply the information.
{{Quote| |quote = *text* |author = *somebody* }}
—Lorem Ipsum
As you can see, the author's name is now indented further than the quote, and a long hyphen appears before the name.
We now know that the "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet" quote was first created by "Lorem Ipsum". However, when did he do so?
Date
The date parameter contains the day, month, or year that the quote was born. The template is currently set up so that dates will not work unless an author or source has been specified, though this may change in the future.
Anyway, here's the syntax:
{{Quote| |quote = *text* |author = *somebody* |date = *any date format* }}
—Lorem Ipsum, August 2, 2013
The date is shown after the author, separating the two by a comma.
We now know that the "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet" quote was first created by "Lorem Ipsum" on August 2, 2013. The date can also be 2 August 2013, 08/02/2013, or any other preferred format.
Source
The Source parameter is a specified place, such as "BeamNG Dev Blog", that can be used if there is no known author, multiple authors, or an author's public domain where the quote is seen.
{{Quote| |quote = *text* |author = *somebody* |date = *any date format* |source = *a company or website* }}
—Lorem Ipsum, adminimveniam.net, August 2, 2013
The source appears in between the comma after the author and before a new comma added behind the date.
We now know that the "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet" quote was first created by "Lorem Ipsum" on August 2, 2013, on his website, "adminimveniam.net".
In the scenario that there isn't an author to specify, then there's a workaround for that:

Error
If the quote template is not used correctly, then this text will appear:
Error: No text given for quotation (or equals sign used in the actual argument to an unnamed parameter)
This means that the "quote" parameter is empty or missing. This is always required in the template for it to work.
