Overview of models
Stock models of the D-Series share the same basic characteristics. They have relatively good crash safety, with the bed and hood sections capable of absorbing the brunt of an impact, and the passenger compartment remaining in good shape to protect the occupants. The suspension is relatively soft, allowing for a comfortable ride across bumpy terrain at the expense of sharp, responsive controls. They have a tendency to bounce and hop in extreme cornering.
I6 RWD
The I6 RWD model is the basic regular cab D15. It is powered by an inline-6 engine that produces 189 horsepower and comes with a 5-speed manual transmission. This model also has 16" steel wheels and the default grey interior, and weighs about 1850 kg.
V8 RWD
The V8 RWD model consists of the basic regular cab D-Series. This configuration swaps out the I6 for a 4.5L V8 engine with 230 horsepower, and it has two stages of engine tuning available. Stage 1 adds about 40 hp, while Stage 2 pushes output to more than 420 horsepower. There are 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmission options.
D35 V8 RWD Crew Cab
This variant is identical in some ways to the D15 Crew Cab, although it is built for more heavy duty work, replacing the standard live rear-axle suspension with a heavy duty live-axle dually. It has special fender flares to cover the added width of all rear wheels. This variant is the regular I6 D15 with a lengthened frame and body. There is space behind the front bench for storage or passengers, which can be accessed by means of suicide doors added behind the front doors. It also has amber roof lights and "D35" lettering on the front fenders also has a 5.5L V8 engine
D35 V8 AWD Crew Cab
This variant is identical to the D35 V8 RWD Crew Cab, although it has all-wheel drive.
D35 Chief Rancher
Luxury version of the D35 V8 AWD Crew Cab with a retro-styled paintjob.
V8 4WD
The V8 4WD model is identical in suspension and body style to the RWD models, but installed is a front transfer case to convert the truck to four-wheel drive, allowing greater off road ability. It also has a brown interior. This model comes out in D15 Regular Cab, D15 Extended Cab, and D35 Extended Cab models, with each variant having their respective differences.
Ever since the first release of BeamNG.drive, the standard V8 4WD model is the vehicle the player starts with upon entering a level, albeit in a slightly different configuration.
V8 4WD Off-Road
The Off-Road variant is drastically different to the stock D15, combining the front transfer case and V8 engine of the roadgoing 4WD model with an overhauled suspension setup, including stronger but softer coils, an off-road front sway bar, and thicker, taller tires to allow great versatility when on harsh terrain. It also features custom limited-slip differentials with a tighter final drive, and a faster steering rack with a racing wheel. As for external differences, the front is protected by a small tubular frame, with a roll bar consisting of a similar tube frame spanning half of the bed's length at the rear. These additions heighten the vehicle's safety, offering increased protection in frontal impacts and rollovers. The fenders are also widened with black fender flares. This variant comes with the D15 only (both Reg. and Ext. models) and has a black interior.
As of the Pre-Race Update, the Off-Road D15 comes with Stage 2 engine tuning and the 5-speed manual transmission, bumping horsepower to over 475 and allowing it to reach 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. The off-road additions bring its weight to over 2100 kg, the heaviest in the D15 lineup, and the Extended Cab variant weighs nearly 120 kg more.
V8 4WD Off-Road Extended cab
This variant is identical to the V8 4WD Off-Road, although it has an extended cab.
D35 "Pig"
The D35 "Pig" variant is similar to the Off-Road model, although there are some major differences. The normal pickup bed and rear bumper have been replaced with a wooden flatbed. The spare tire and a larger fuel tank have been placed on this flatbed. The rollbar has been redesigned so that it's frame mountings lie behind the rear wheels. The live-axle rear suspension has been replaced with a rather roll-prone three-link setup. The front fenders are just like those on a regular D15. Also, the front bumper has been removed. This model has a brown interior.
With all of these changes, this model is the second heaviest D35 in the lineup, weighing in at 2033 kg. It is also very good at off roading.
V8 RWD Sport
The Sport version of the D15 features an overhauled "sport" suspension system, sport 17" wheels, body-colored bumpers, red interior, a limited-slip differential, and Stage 1 engine tuning. A tighter steering rack is also included.
V8 RWD Custom
The Custom version takes the Sport and adds a custom racing steering wheel, custom 18" alloy wheels, body-colored grille, blue interior, Stage 2 engine tuning, and a 5-speed manual transmission. The D15 Custom takes around 5.8 seconds to reach 60 mph, having difficulty putting the power to the ground due to being RWD.
