The '''Ibishu Covet''' is a small, three-door Japanese hatchback built by [[Ibishu]]. It is styled after certain Japanese models from around 1987-1995.

The '''Ibishu Covet''' is a sub-compact three-door hatchback produced by [[Ibishu]] from 1987 to 1991. It is equipped with a high-revving, single-overhead-cam 1.5L I4 engine by default, which outputs around 80 horsepower with its standard carburetor (and about 100 HP with the fuel injectors, as in the DXi/LXi).

The light weight and front-wheel-drive layout of the Covet result in fast, responsive handling. It has a tendency for mechanical oversteer and power understeer, resulting in balanced, tossable behavior. In terms of safety, the Covet is relatively unsafe. During low-speed collisions, the soft body of the vehicle will absorb the impact very well, but the majority of the vehicle's structure lacks the rigidity to keep it in shape during an impact, meaning parts of the car may crumple inwards, potentially injuring occupants.

==Overview of models==
+
==Development==
The stock model weighs around 950kg. The car is available with either a 4-speed manual, 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission. 0-60 mph takes around 12 seconds and the car will only reach 100 mph on a good day.

|quote = Your typical 80s Japanese FWD hatchback. Lightweight (less than 1000kg), nimble, cheap, and hilariously unsafe. The front suspension is a rather sophisticated double wishbone setup, but the rear is a poorly tuned multilink arrangement which allows the car to tripod on command.

The Covet was first seen in a video on BeamNG's official YouTube channel, uploaded on July 7, 2012.<ref>YouTube: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JPDtDfxf6w BeamNG progress update! New cars, intervehicle collision, breaking glass, and more!]</ref> Shortly after, a post on the official devblog was made providing details and development screenshots.<ref>Devblog: [https://blog.beamng.com/ibishu-covet/ Ibishu Covet]</ref> It was released on August 5, 2013 with verison 0.3, the initial public release of the game.

The '''ZXi''' model increases power output to about 115 hp, and includes stiffer suspension and 15" Ibishu Blades alloy wheels.
+
The Covet's configurations have changed greatly over time. Originally, a "Sport" configuration was included, which later became the "Race" as a more factory-optioned version of the Sport took its place.<ref>Devblog: [http://blog.beamng.com/realistic-automatic-transmission-vehicle-and-map-updates/ Realistic automatic transmission, vehicle and map updates]</ref> Both would later be superseded by the "1.5 ZXi" and "Track," respectively. The "Skidplate" configuration and the accompanying skidplates were added in the 0.3.7.4 update, and the "Beater" configuration and its custom parts were added in the 0.4.3.2 update.

The '''Beater''' is a dirty version of the car with broken suspension which badly affects the handling. It can reach 60 mph in around 14 seconds. The Beater is the cheapest variant of the Covet so it makes a great project car or demo derby candidate.
+
The Covet was remodeled twice, first in the 0.16 update<ref>Devblog: [https://blog.beamng.com/electrifying-0-16/ Electrifying 0.16]</ref> and later in the 0.17 update.<ref>Devblog: [https://blog.beamng.com/buckle-up-heavy-traffic-ahead-update-0-17-released/ Buckle up, heavy traffic ahead: Update 0.17 released]</ref>

The '''Track''' configuration adds a Stage 2 Turbocharger, stiff race suspension, racing steering wheel, 6-speed race transmission, limited-slip differential, faster 720 degree steering rack, roll cage, and swaps the default hubcapped steel wheels with custom 16" Folk ET73 alloys. With the Stage 2 Turbocharger, engine output is increased to around 190hp and the car can reach 60 mph in around 7 seconds. Top speed exceeds 130 mph.
+
==Configurations==

+
{| class="wikitable" style="min-width: 550px"
The '''Rally-Gravel''' configuration includes the same upgrades as the Track configuration, but offers rally coilovers instead of race coilovers, 14" Dreid RallyPro rally wheels, and a tight 540 degree steering rack. The output of the Rally and Track models are identical (although the Rally is 20 kg heavier), but the Covet Rally is more suited to harsh terrain as its suspension has been completely retuned with variable-rate springs and advanced two-way dampers.

The Ibishu Covet is a sub-compact three-door hatchback produced by Ibishu from 1987 to 1991.

It is the only available vehicle in the Tech Demo.

Development

Your typical 80s Japanese FWD hatchback. Lightweight (less than 1000kg), nimble, cheap, and hilariously unsafe. The front suspension is a rather sophisticated double wishbone setup, but the rear is a poorly tuned multilink arrangement which allows the car to tripod on command.

—gabester, Devblog, 15 August 2012

The Covet was first seen in a video on BeamNG's official YouTube channel, uploaded on July 7, 2012.[1] Shortly after, a post on the official devblog was made providing details and development screenshots.[2] It was released on August 5, 2013 with verison 0.3, the initial public release of the game.

The Covet's configurations have changed greatly over time. Originally, a "Sport" configuration was included, which later became the "Race" as a more factory-optioned version of the Sport took its place.[3] Both would later be superseded by the "1.5 ZXi" and "Track," respectively. The "Skidplate" configuration and the accompanying skidplates were added in the 0.3.7.4 update, and the "Beater" configuration and its custom parts were added in the 0.4.3.2 update.

The Covet was remodeled twice, first in the 0.16 update[4] and later in the 0.17 update.[5]
