The Diesel Engine is an internal combustion engine in which ignition of the fuel (a higher-temperature distillation of crude oil than regular petrol) is caused by the elevated temperature of the air in the cylinder due to mechanical (adiabatic) compression, as opposed to using a spark plug in petrol or gas-fuel engines to ignite the compressed fuel mixture.
