The Gavril D-Series is a medium pickup truck built by Gavril between 1985 and 1994. It shares a frame with the Gavril Roamer, as well as a previous generation of D-series.[1] It was the first vehicle to be developed for BeamNG's soft-body physics engine, dating back to 2012.

Development

It's quite slow and handles poorly, but it more than makes up for it with durability and brute force.

Even before its first appearance on the Blog, the D15 had already been showcased in a YouTube video demonstrating the soft-body physics which the BeamNG team had been developing at that point.[2] It had been the first vehicle to be created for the software, although the interior was not modeled in that video and a color map may not have been added yet, either. The photos from the Blog, as well as a subsequent YouTube update,[3] shows both of these implemented.

Ever since its release in 0.3.0, it's been the only official pickup truck in the game; its counterpart, the Gavril Roamer, while sharing a complete undercarriage, is different both stylistically and functionally. Updates have been made over time to increase the variety of options for this model, however. Notable ones include new configurations (starting in 0.3.1, with "Sport" and "Drift Missile" variants added), extended cab models, heavy duty (D35) models (both in 0.5.0, at which point the name changed to D-Series), crew cab models (in 0.9.0), various new parts and props, and new engines and powertrain updates.

On October 28, 2019, a screenshot was posted in the Development Media thread,[4] showcasing a proportionally tweaked mesh. This was a teaser for the D-Series' complete overhaul, released on December 9, 2019 with update 0.18. The body and frame were made fully separable, the inner front fender structure was reworked to be more accurate to contemporary full-size pickup trucks, improvements were made to the mesh and JBEAM structure, and several new parts and configurations were added.[5]

Among these additions were a work-in-progress short frame and one-piece body, which were fully functional but lacking parts and configurations. Stoat Muldoon promised on December 12, 2019 that a rear shell would be added in the near future.[6] On March 3, 2020, he announced that the shell, interior, and parts were complete, and provided an screenshot showing the fully assembled vehicle (revealed to be called the D10 'Charro').[7]In the same post, he revealed the Roamer LXT, providing an screenshot for it as well. In the background, a D-Series with an alternate fascia could be seen.

On March 2020, Nadeox1 posted an screenshot of a D10 Charro in a head-on collision with an H-Series.[8] On the D10 was an older rear bumper not previously seen or mentioned. On March 19, 2020, Stoat Muldoon officially revealed the previously seen fascia and bumpers as a 1985-1987 pre-facelift[9] (prior to this, the D-Series was listed as beginning production in 1988).

The D10 Charro and 1985 D-Series will be added in a future update.
